Field Service Technician

Department: West Coast Field Tech
Location: Minneapolis, MN

Spencer Technologies, a retail technology solutions and support services company, is seeking an ambitious experienced Field Service Technician to work with our retail customers to install and repair data lines and equipment. Our company has grown to more than 250 employees and five offices serving the technology needs of hundreds of leading retailers and other multi-site organizations throughout the United States, North America and the globe.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Reading technical manuals to learn correct settings for equipment
  • Installing wires and cables as well as splice wires or cables
  • Disassembling equipment or modify equipment in accordance to use request
  • Entering commands into computer to test equipment
  • Verifying that data is being transmitted between locations according to specifications
  • Responsible for viewing and completing work orders
  • Move, change, install, repair or remove data communications equipment such as POS systems, phone systems, computer terminals, audio systems, DVR’s, digital signage, traffic monitoring systems/analytics and wireless RF units.
  • Inspect and test wiring to locate and repair problems as well as ensuring that all specifications are met.


Job Requirements:

  • 3-5 years field experience in configuration
  • Installation of hardware products, cabling, and networking
  • Knowledge of the 25 pair color code
  • Firm understanding of T-1 circuits and installation
  • POS installation/configuration
  • POS break/fix knowledge
  • Phone system installation (Cisco & Avaya)
  • Knowledge of BICSI standards

  • Must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop and implement project process improvements.
  • Must promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners
  • Must be able to act as the company liaison for interface with customer representatives
  • Must possess proven problem solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral directions.
  • Must be able to work at heights, off a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • Must be able to travel 800-1000 miles a week in a company paid van that is fully equipped with a laptop and cell phone- This is a Road Warrior position.



Educations, Certification, License and Skill Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or some college
  • 3-5 years field experience in configuration
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at off-site client locations
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Basic computer skills and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to travel and a valid driver’s license with a clear driving
  • Availability to work evening and weekend hours
